Only reducing the number of processes running at startup, on the desktop/taskbar, and in the background had the desired effect. I'm starting to get a hunch that it If you find things that it's OK to close without impairing your functionality, the next step is to disable them so they won't load/activate at all.

I bought this used 7 months ago, no manual, how do I turn the thing off without going through the desktop taskbar ? My older mac has a switch in the back but I don't know how to turn the 9600 off. Hot to get Desktop Icon....[FINAL FOLLOWUP]
Since I loaded IE5, I've lost the little icons for Explorer, Desktop etc that used to be down by the Start button. I've tried dragging icons from the desktop to the taskbar, but it won't do it. I've reloaded IE5 but again, no success. Any suggestions short of a disk wipe?

I have this one program that keeps loading up with its windows almost completely out of the bottom of the screen, and no matter what I try it won't remember where I drag it to. I realize how annoying this can be, but it's not worth your time. Or reconfigure your desktop/taskbar such that it's less of a problem.

Thanks Sheila Word Perfect swuite installs a Desktop Taskbar. You need to call it up and then disable(close). Uninstall should be an icon in start/programs/ Corel WP7 or whatever it is called on your machine. Use it and won't be a problem. Manually delete Icons and shortcuts from explorer. -- CAPT.

"Search" won't work from "Start" button on desktop taskbar, but works from Windows Explorer. When attempting to activate "search" from the "start" button, the taskbar at bottom of screen in desktop freezes and all the minimized, open programs are also frozen ie won't activate, restore, close.

IE5 - loss of Taskbar Icons
It's called the Icon Cache, not Cash....so if you are manually editing the Registry and misspelling it, it won't work. Exactly how are you going about setting the Icon Cache size in the Are they on the Desktop,Taskbar, folder windows, or in the Start Menu, or are they only in the toolbars of specific programs?
